Emory Lloyd ‘Wink’ Campbell, 67, Navy veteran who served his country for 28 years

Emory Lloyd “Wink” Campbell, 67, of Virginia Beach, passed away Monday, July 23, 2018.

A native of Sullivan, West Virginia, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy when he was 18 years old. OSCM (SW) Campbell, a Vietnam veteran, proudly served his country for 28 years. He retired in 1996 as the command master chief of Naval Station Norfolk. He had a second career with H&R Block as a tax preparer, during which he attained certification as an enrolled agent.

Mr. Campbell enjoyed autocross racing, playing his guitar, shooting pool, restoring old hot rods, working out at the Cardiac Fitness Center and doting on his beloved grandchildren.

Mr. Campbell will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and PaPaw.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of over 45 years, Jean Campbell of Virginia Beach; daughter, Jill Sunderland; son-in-law, Larry Sunderland; grandson, Thomas; and granddaughter, Lauren of Chesapeake; brothers, Jack and Arnold Campbell; sister, Marsha Saye; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hunter and Edna Campbell; sister, Gayle Bowling; and brother, Mike Campbell.

His family is proud of his decision to be an organ donor. His wishes have been carried out.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 28, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, 3600 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Plaza Volunteer Rescue Squad.
