Carolina Pauline ‘Carol’ Gunter, 48, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2018. She was a native of Virginia Beach and a graduate of Frank W. Cox High School, Class of 1988.
Carol was preceded in death by her father, Raymond R. Gunter.
She is survived by her mother, Wilhelmina Gunter of Virginia Beach; sister, Paula Gunter, and her husband, Jeffrey Burnett, of Charlottesville, Va.; adored niece, Marigold Ray Burnett of Charlottesville, Va.; and her aunt, Gerda Kiewiet, and her husband, Jan, of the Netherlands. She is also survived by her dearly loved step-family, including her stepfather, Bill Emerson; stepsister, Stefanie Emerson White, and her husband, Lew; and stepbrothers, Willie and Brian Emerson, and his wife, Alison. Her family would also like to recognize the love and support from her cousins, Betty Amory, Meredith McKown Peyton, and especially her devoted caregiver and friend, Sheila Frazier, and the many other friends who have supported us.
Carol was a self-taught artist, avid outdoors person, fisherwoman and nature lover and had a special gift for connecting with animals of all kinds. She loved to be on the beach with the sand between her toes and a fishing rod in her hand. She spent many of her working years in construction administration and loved working in heavy highway construction.
The family will receive visitors from 2 to 3 p.m., Monday, April 23, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., 2002 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach. A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. in the chapel.
