Daniel D. DeHart, 78, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016. Dan was born in Radford, Va., to Roy and Etta DeHart.
He is survived by wife, Patricia DeHart; children, Christopher and Dana DeHart; and loved ones, Amber Agee-DeHart, and her daughter, Lauren DeHart, Dorothy Kennedy, and Paula and Laley Justice.
Dan attended Oceana High School and Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, Old Dominion University and the University of Miami. He served in the U.S. Air Force, during which he and Pat lived in Bangor, Maine, and Roswell, N.M.
Dan had his pilot license and enjoyed flying, boating, golfing and traveling with friends and family. He was an active member of the community and loved by all for his kindness, generosity, quick wit and broad smile for everyone he greeted. Dan was a member of the Shriners, the Masonic Lodge of Lynnhaven, the Ruritan and Sertoma Clubs, the Chesapeake Athletic Club, and the Cavalier Golf and Yacht Club. Dan also was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach.
Dan and his father, Roy DeHart, established and owned London Bridge Shopping Center, DeHart Realty, and Princess Anne Memorial Park in Virginia Beach.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Sentara Windermere for their care and kindness given to Dan the last months of his life.
A service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017, at the Great Neck Chapel of Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 1264 North Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach, with visitation beginning at 2 p.m.
