Erwin Abat Cabanban, 80, passed away Sunday, Dec. 25, 2016. Born in San Juan, Philippines, he was the son of the late Emiliano and Rufina Cabanban. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Jemeling C. Cabanban.
He had retired from the U.S. Navy and received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Navy Unit Commendation (two), and the Vietnam Service Medal.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Erwin Cabanban Jr. and Jimmy Cabanban, and his wife, Marlene; daughter, Jennifer Dayao, and her husband, Dean; sister-in-law, Rosita Tolentino, and her husband, Federico; six grandchildren, Jarred, Jude, Jett, and Greer Cabanban and Ryland and Nixon Dayao; nephews, Justin and James Tolentino; and niece, Emmy Greenhill.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park.
