Denise Marie Zackman, 43, of Virginia Beach, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 25, 2016, after a 10-year incredible battle with ovarian cancer.

Denise was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Nov. 23, 1973, to Linda and Bill Harris. She was a 1996 graduate of East Stroudsburg University with a degree elementary education.

Denise was married to Sean Zackman on May 14, 1999; they were married for 17 years and parents to Alyssa, 16, and Ryan, 11.

Denise worked as a teacher in Brooklyn, New York and Virginia Beach. She loved so many things — reading, playing Jeopardy, board games and music. She was a fierce competitor, a thrill seeker and adventurous, but her true love and passion was becoming a mother to Alyssa and Ryan. She was a loving wife and mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece and a true friend to so many. She faced each day with hope, courage and a smile that brightened any room.

Denise is survived by her husband, Sean Zackman; children, Alyssa and Ryan Zackman; mother, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 28, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, Virginia Beach. Denise had requested that no one wear black, but come in brighter colors which exemplified her outgoing, fun-loving attitude toward each day.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Camp Kesem at
