Helen H. “Lennie” Stokely, 82, had an encouraging and uplifting personality

Helen H. “Lennie” Stokely, 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016, at her home. Born in Summit, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Jean and Leila Harchol.

She was our amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and teacher. Truly, she was the one who taught us to love and show us its ways. She was also fun, witty, cheerful and bright, encouraging and uplifting to all who knew or met her. Even the clerks in many store checkout lines would be happy and uplifted when she passed through. She was a much-loved, longtime member of The Gathering at Scott Memorial United Methodist Church.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Herbert A. “Herk” Stokely; daughter, Jane M. Stokely of Virginia Beach; son, Chad M. Stokely, and his wife, Alice, of Virginia Beach; brother, Richard Harchol of Irvine, Calif.; grandchildren, Michael Blake Stokely, and his wife, Jane, of Kansas and Erik A. Stokely, and his wife, Kathleen; and great-grandson, Camden of the Eastern Shore, Va.

Arrangements are private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
