William E. “Bill” Boyll, 82, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016.

He was preceded in death by his father, Esten A. Boyll of Oklahoma; mother, Bessie M. Davis of Illinois; partner, James Garrett Jr.; and nephew, Steve Burger.

Left to cherish his memory are sisters, Jean Burger (Bob) and Susie Kearns (Bobby); niece, Lib Burkette (Jay); great-niece, Lindsey Burkette; great-nephew, Nick Burkette; and Chris Brush, many faculty, extended family and friends.

Bill was born in Terre Haute, Ind. He received a B.S. degree from Indiana State Teachers College with a major in Choral Music. He also received a Masters in Education from the University of Virginia. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1958. Bill taught for the Virginia Beach Public School system for 32 years, mostly at Cox High School. He loved traveling, gardening, cooking and was an accomplished organist. Bill sang in church choirs and most recently with the St. Cecilia Choir at Old Donation Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach, where he also served as a docent.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at Old Donation Episcopal Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Old Donation Music Program or the Building Fund.
