Carmen “Kate” Hodges, 72, of Virginia Beach, passed away peacefully Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her immediate family.
Kate was the loving wife of and is survived by her husband, James R. Hodges, retired chief quarter master of the U.S. Navy. She was a devoted mother and is survived by her beloved son, James “Scott” Hodges, and his wife, Leah Hodges; grandson, Austin; brothers, Konrad and Waldemar, and their families in Australia; sister, Caroline in Scotland; and many other family members and friends in Australia, Scotland, Poland and the United States.
Kate was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on Feb. 24, 1944, to the late Claire and Taduesz Ostrowski. She also lived in Australia, where she met her loving husband of 47 years. She moved to the United States in 1969 and became a U.S. citizen in 1976. She retired from Virginia Beach City Public Schools after 25-plus years of service.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. Immediately following the service, the family will receive family and friends at 2181 Hedgelawn Way, Virginia Beach, VA 23454.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
