Harry H. Knickerbocker, 82, passed away Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016. He was born on May 24, 1934, to the late Margaret Elizabeth (Sawyer) Knickerbocker and Harry Hiram Knickerbocker Sr., in Norfolk.

Mr. Knickerbocker graduated from Maury High School and the College of William & Mary’s Norfolk Division, which later became Old Dominion University. He began his career with National Bank of Commerce, spending over 50 years in the banking communities of Norfolk and Virginia Beach until retiring from BB&T in 2008.

A proud member of ODU’s Basketball Hall of Fame, he was a longtime supporter and season ticket holder of the ODU Men’s basketball team. Mr. Knickerbocker was also a longtime member of the Chesapeake Athletic Club.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 52 years, Sandra Horton Knickerbocker; daughter, Kara E. Collins, and her husband, Charlie; daughter, Leslie A. Knickerbocker; son, Kevin A. Knickerbocker, and his wife, Jana; and nine beautiful grandchildren, Michael, Meg, Jonathan, Patrick, Matthew, Daniel, Sarah, Nicholas and Emma.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 1485 Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 5181 Singleton Way, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church, the American Diabetes Association or The Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters (CHKD).
