Helen ‘Carol’ Moon, 75, charter member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church

Helen “Carol” Moon, 75, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, June 30, 2016, after a valiant and courageous fight with lung cancer. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God and the love and prayers of family, friends and many supporters carried her through the grueling years of treatments and chemotherapy. Throughout her own struggle with cancer, she remained the caring, giving, helping woman she always had been.

Carol was a charter member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church serving in many capacities, from Women’s Club President and member of the Building and Capital Campaign committees to the beautiful Giving Trees and Christmas Bows and her longtime commitment to delivering for Meals on Wheels. Carol was instrumental in the establishment of the Golden Slippers Dance Academy 35 years ago. She continued to be the “heart and soul” of the dance studio, working until the very end.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Clara Winfrey and Guy E. Daugherty; and her beloved grandmother, Helen “Granny” Daugherty. She is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, Charles F. “Chick” Moon, Jr.; daughters, Tamara Silverman, Theresa Hillegas (Duane) and Helen Katherine Moon; her granddaughters, Clara, Cora and Isabella Silverman, and her grandson, Bryce Hillegas.

A visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, 1457 Independence Blvd., Virginia Beach. A recitation of the rosary will begin at  p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 5345 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, with burial immediately following at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk, Virginia. A reception will follow at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Camilla Hall, Sister Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, 1145 King Road, Box 100, Immaculata, PA 19345.
