Betty Jane Gooding Starr, age 91, went home to be with the Lord on December 24, 2015. Born January 21, 1924 to Charles and Marie Gooding. Mrs. Starr was a native of Wilmington, DE.
She was a graduate of Friends School, class of 1942 and Marjorie Webster College, class of 1944. Betty was employed as an executive secretary for eighteen years with Goodwill Industries.
Mrs. Starr was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Wilmington for over twenty years before moving to Virginia Beach, where she united with Kempsville Presbyterian Church. Betty was especially blessed by the ministry, friendship and prayers provided by her Bible Study groups at both churches. A committed witness for Jesus Christ, her desire was to know Him and make Him known to others.
Mrs. Starr was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Lamont Haynes Starr; and her two sisters, Anne G. Billings and Bernice I. Karfgin. She is survived by her daughter, Gail S. Dorman; son-in-law, Bruce A. Dorman; two grandchildren, Lisa M. Stone and Matthew S. Dorman; two great grandchildren, Madelyn G. Stone and Logan J. Stone; three nieces and one nephew.
A memorial service will be held at Kempsville Presbyterian Church, 805 Kempsville Rd., Virginia Beach, VA 23464 on January 5, 2016, at 1:30 p.m., with a reception immediately following in the community room. Burial in Linwood, PA will be private. Arrangements are by Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel.
