Frederick James Stokey III, 77, retired from Naval Aviation Depot and Norfolk Naval Shipyard with 30 years of service

Frederick James Stokey III, 77, was born June 1, 1938 in Covington, VA to the late Frederick and Janet (Busard) Stokey, Jr. and for the past 33 years was a resident of Virginia Beach.

He graduated from Covington High School in 1955 and then Virginia Polytechnic Institute (now Virginia Tech) in 1960 with a BS degree in Chemical Engineering. After 2 years in the Army at Fort Detrick, Maryland, he worked in industry, Riegel Paper Company, RJ Reynolds food division, Betz Specialty Chemical Company, and then retired from the Naval Aviation Depot and Norfolk Naval Shipyard in 2008 with 30 years of service.

He is survived by Barbara Basl Stokey, his wife of 33 years and a sister Ronda Stokey Humbert (Frank) of Parkersburg, West Virginia. In addition he is survived by his brother-in-law, Jim Basl (Susan) of Midlothian, Virginia and his nephews and niece, Joe Basl of Richmond, VA., Jim Basl (Elizabeth) of Baltimore, and Elizabeth Basl of Waltham, Ma. and grand-nephew and grand-niece, Jack and Madeline Basl.

A funeral service will be held Friday December 11 at 1 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, VA 23502. The family will receive friends and family for visitation, Thursday evening from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
