Bonita Dilday Coons, 66, passed away in an automobile accident on August 30, 2015, in Atlanta, GA.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 46 years, Hugh Irwin Coons, Jr.; her son, Shawn Coons; her mother, Leitha Dilday; a brother, Dan Dilday; a sister, Connie Murden; two sister-in-laws, Nancy Glaus and Patsy Kiger; two grandsons, Ethan and Christian; former son-in-law, Steve Davis, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia C. Davis; her father, Daniel L. Dilday; and a brother, Eddie C. Dilday.

Bonita was a graduate of Bayside High School in Virginia Beach. Thereafter, she went to work with the Norfolk School Board and then later with Norfolk Public Schools. She was a member of London Bridge Baptist Church, where she and her husband worked side by side in sharing their faith with those who crossed their paths, whether through the GriefShare Program, the F.A.I.T.H. Riders Ministry, or Bible studies. Sharing the love and mercy of Christ was her life’s passion.

“Gram” adored her two grandsons, Ethan and Christian, and always made the most of the time spent with them, as they brightened her day immensely. She enjoyed countless friendships created and nurtured through the years and was especially blessed to have very close friends Carolyn Tancredi, Jan Brittain, and Patricia “Trish” Cribb to share her journey with. She enjoyed getting together regularly with the members of the Larrymore Girls Club, of which she was a founding member.

Bonita endeavored to brighten the lives of family, friends, and even strangers by sharing her gifts of writing, decorating, crafting, and baking. She added a special touch to every occasion. She will be missed by many, but all who were lucky enough to have been a part of her life know that she is at peace in the loving arms of her Lord.

A funeral service will be held at London Bridge Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Monday, November 30, 2015. Interment will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, Sunday November 29, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
