Glenelle Bryant, 96, remarkable woman relied on nature for insight into life’s mysteries

Glenelle Bryant, of Virginia Beach, died peacefully on Oct. 13, 2015, at the age of 96.

She was born in Wilson County, North Carolina on Aug. 24, 1919, to Wylie Thomas Price and Lee Nettie Lamm. She was married to Harvey Franklin Bryant for 69 years, until his death in 2012.

She is survived by her children, Frank Bryant Jr., Randi Strutton (Ray), Curtis Bryant (Kim) and Lauren Finley (Steve); seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Ruby Price and Bess Sheldon; and dozens of nieces and nephews.

Glenelle was a remarkable woman whose zest for life warmed the hearts of all who knew her. She was a gifted writer and storyteller whose ready wit entertained family and friends throughout her life. She was also an award-winning poet who often relied on nature for insight into life’s mysteries. Known for her kindness, she understood that all people are worthy of forgiveness and compassion. To know her was to love her and to feel loved by her.

The family would like to thank Jamie Bryant, her daughter-in-law, for her loyal devotion and help, especially during the last decade of Glenelle’s life. We are grateful, too, to the staff and residents of Pacifica Assisted Living and to Heartland Hospice for their care and support.

A funeral service, featuring a recording of Glenelle telling her own story, was held Monday afternoon, Oct. 19, 2015, at Bayside Baptist Church, 1920 Pleasure House Road, Virginia Beach.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hoffler Creek Wildlife Foundation, 4510 Twin Pines Road, Portsmouth, VA 23703.

Please leave online condolences for the family at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home.
