Mary Ann Swindell Baynor, of Virginia Beach, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015, at Sentara Hospice Center. She was 95.
She was a native of Norfolk and resided in Virginia Beach for most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Maj. Latham Swindell and Mary Sawyer Swindell and was preceded in death by her husband, Elvin Baynor Sr.; son, Charles Latham Baynor; brothers, Maj. L. Swindell II and Charles L. King; and sister, Daisy M. McNair.
Mary was a charter member of Carrow Baptist Church, Virginia Beach. She was an avid reader who also enjoyed sewing, crafting and crocheting for her family and friends.
Survivors include her daughters, Patricia A. Gregory, of Virginia Beach and Deborah E. Kaffenberger and her husband John, of Chesapeake; sons, E. Glenn Baynor Jr. and his wife Norma, Richard W. Baynor and his wife Jean and John T. Baynor and his wife Patti, all of Chesapeake; sisters, Ellen Dunbar and Frances Fentress, both of Virginia Beach; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015, at the Norfolk chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. The Rev. Victor Ramsey will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Kempsville Volunteer Rescue Squad, 5145 Ruritan Court, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
