Charity Louise Campbell, of Virginia Beach, died Oct. 9, 2015, after a brief illness. She was 89.
She was born to Everett Messer and Lillian Tinkham Messer in Passadumkeag, Maine, on Aug. 17, 1926.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Robert L. Campbell, and their son, Mark E. Campbell.
She leaves behind her sister, Maxine Quackenbush (Jack), and brother, Samuel Messer (Kathy) of Rochester, New York; sons, Michael (Rose) of Virginia Beach and Matthew (Shelley) of San Antonio; 12 grandchildren, Jason (Danielle), Jennifer, Tracy, Charity, Mark Joseph, Francis, Brian, Maeve, Evan, Elizabeth (Jesse), Robert and Sandra; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Charity lived a full and productive life, devoting herself to her family and community. She ensured that a home was maintained throughout a number of military postings that her husband, Robert, was assigned throughout his career in the U.S. Air Force. Charity was actively involved in numerous school functions and organizations throughout the boys’ school years. She was an active member of the Norfolk Valley of Scottish Rite Ladies and a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015, at H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments. A second visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by funeral services at 2 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, at the funeral home chapel.
The family wishes to give great thanks to Shirley from Jewish Family Services, Monica from Heartland Home Health and the staff of Ward 3 East at Virginia Beach General Hospital. A very special thank-you to Kelly and James.
