Laura Mason Putney, of Virginia Beach, died unexpectedly, yet peacefully, on Oct. 4, 2015, while surrounded by her loving family. Laura was 56 and beamed with life and energy.
Laura attended St. Mark’s Prep School and graduated from Hollins University. She spent many happy summers in Annisquam, Massachusetts, the small village she always cherished and felt was her second home. For many years she was an active member of the Annisquam Yacht Club where she enjoyed sailing and tennis. She was a member of Galilee Episcopal Church, Society of The Colonial Dames and Princess Anne Country Club.
Laura was an avid tennis player and was active at Inlet Fitness. She loved the beach and spending time there with friends or with a good book. Laura loved to dance and those who knew her well would often see her bright smile lighting up the floor.
She is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Lacey Edward Putney Jr.; son, Lacey Edward Putney III, of Nashville, Tennessee; daughter, Georgia Mason Putney; parents, Scott and Carolyn Mason; brother, Scott C. Mason Jr. and his wife Nina, of Raleigh, North Carolina and their children, Lane, Genie and Scout; father-in-law, Lacey E. Putney Sr. and wife Carmela, of Bedford; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Susan and Eames Powers, of Lynchburg and their children, Elizabeth Powers and Amanda Powers Hersch and husband Caleb, of Charlottesville.
Laura loved people and leaves behind so many dear friends who gave her so much joy and brightened her life. The family would like to thank them all for their love and support.
The family will receive friends from 5 yo 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9, 2015, at Galilee Episcopal Church with a reception to follow at the church social hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Galilee Episcopal Church or to the charity of one’s choosing.
