Chesapeake extends closure of City facilities ‘essential services’ continue

In coordination with other jurisdictions in the region, the City of Chesapeake will extend the closure of all City facilities and offices to the public until further notice, according to a press release. City officials say essential City services will continue to be maintained.

The Planning Commission meeting schedule for April 8 is cancelled.

Chesapeake Public Schools (CPS) are closed through the end of the school year. Beginning Wednesday, March 25, CPS will update its hours and add additional locations for the Grab-N-Go breakfast and lunch. Meals will be provided at no cost to anyone 18 and under. Students must be present to receive meals. For hours and location details, visit bit.ly/cpsfooddistribution.

Chesapeake Mosquito Control is temporarily suspending inspections and treatments of individual properties. The program will respond to all mosquito service requests by performing a general inspection of the problem area and treating immature mosquitoes in standing water in open or common areas. When the spray season begins, workers will spray for adult mosquitoes in the evening. Residents are encouraged to inspect their yards and remove any objects that may hold water or regularly tip and toss to avoid attracting mosquitos.
