What you need to know to vote in presidential primaries

The deadline to register to vote in the Democratic Party presidential primaries​ is just around the corner.

On March 3, residents will cast their ballots in the Democratic Party Presidential Primary.

The deadline to register to vote is Monday, Feb 10.

The Constitution of Virginia requires that voters be registered to vote in the precinct in which they live in order to be qualified to vote.

To be eligible to vote on Tuesday, March 3, those not registered, or any registered voter who needs to make a change to their registration address or name, must submit a Voter Registration Application no later than close of business on Monday, Feb. 10. Mailed Voter Registration Applications must also be postmarked on or before Feb. 10.

Virginia Beach voters

Residents can register in-person at the Voter Registration & Elections Office, all Virginia Beach Public Library locations, and Virginia Beach Department of Motor Vehicles Offices (in conjunction with DMV transactions) during normal hours of operation. Online voter registration is also available on the Department of Elections website at www.vote.virginia.gov.

Absentee ballot applications must be received by mail, email, fax, or online by 5 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 25.  The voted ballot must be received in our office by 7 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, March 3. Saturday, Feb. 29, by 5 p.m. is the last day for absentee voting in-person.

Registered voters who need to vote absentee in-person may do so at the Voter Registration & Elections office.

    and Saturdays, Feb. 22 & Feb. 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    Feb. 17 – Feb. 28, Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    and Saturdays, Feb. 22 & Feb. 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Kempsville Treasurer’s Office – Fairfield Shopping Center
    5340 Fairfield Shopping Center, 23464
    Feb. 17 – Feb. 28, Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    (No Saturday hours at this location.)

Voters that do not have an acceptable form of identification may contact our office for a free voter photo ID.
