VIRGINIA BEACH — Naval Air Station Oceana will have its annual pre-Air Show mishap drill Friday showing the ability of Oceana and the city to respond and recover from a mass casualty incident, which happens during an air show open to the public, officials said in a news release.

Each August, in preparation for the air show, the Navy and local first responders simulate a potential mishap.

The drill includes numerous emergency services personnel and vehicles responding to an event at NAS Oceana, officials said.

The public may see emergency vehicles taking roll-players, who are acting as injured patients, to emergency rooms at local hospitals.

The public may also see smoke on the airfield from the surrounding area, officials added.

The 2019 NAS Oceana Air Show is on Sept. 21-22 — it’s free and open to the public.
