Going car-less in Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH — Officials at the tourism department here are encouraging visitors to not only be care-free on their vacation but also car-free.

Teresa Diaz is a spokeswoman for the Virginia Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau and said sites that are able to be explored on foot is appealing to tourists.

“With wellness travel continuing to be a hot trend, walking and bicycling experiences in Virginia Beach are a perfect fit for those seeking to combine fresh air, fitness, and fun,” she said.

On their website, the department highlights Town Center, Sandbridge, and the Oceanfront as some of the recommended favorites for fun without a car.

Town Center

With “dining, nightlife, shopping, and the arts” all nestled within the “heart of Virginia Beach” — Town Center provides easy-walking access from co-located hotels to family-friendly or date night attractions.

And, with access to the beach via bus this is the place for residents and visitors to get the best of everything the city has to offer.

Sandbridge

This laid-back beach town is for those looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Sandbridge is for the crowds who look for outdoor activities on their getaways with kayaking, hiking, and fishing at Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge and False Cape State within walking or biking distance.

Oceanfront

Virginia Beach visitors are typically keen to the Oceanfront and lively resort area lined with bars, restaurants, street performers, cafes, and more.

Within the 3-mile boardwalk, there’s all of the aforementioned with wide, sandy, and free beaches prime for surfing, kayaking, and swimming.
