NORFOLK — The city has a free nighttime recreation program for residents ages 18 and up called Norfolk Nighthawks and the 2019 season program season kicks off Friday (June 28) with an all-star basketball game.

Participants in the Nighthawk program can do more than play basketball, though.

Residents will find free access to Mixxed Fit classes, Hip Hop and Line Dance classes, voter registration, computer coding classes, food handler’s certification courses, board and card game tournaments, fishing lessons and even free haircuts, Nighthawk program officials said.

Nighthawks runs all summer long on Fridays and Saturdays, 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

No registration is necessary for residents to participate in the programs, they just have to show up to the various community centers where the events are held, officials said.

The program is run and fully funded by Recreation, Parks and Open Space and is implemented by departmental staff.
