NORFOLK — The city’s public school system is reaching out to the community for new recipes to add to its cafeteria menus for the 2019-2020 school year.

According to a tweet sent out by School Nutrition, a city public school Twitter account, the school district is asking for “students to submit your family recipes to give us a taste of your kitchen next year.”

To submit a recipe, students may either print out the recipe card and submit to their school’s nutrition manager or fill-out the online Recipe Card form.

Recipes should include the name, cultural region, serving size, ingredients, and cooking instructions as well as why this recipe is important to the family.

Multiple recipe submissions are encouraged, officials said.

Pictures of families preparing and enjoying the recipes are also welcome, according to the website.

To send pictures students may either give hard copies to their school’s nutrition manager, email them to SchoolNutrition@nps.k12.va.us, or include as part of their recipe submission online.

Recipes will be adapted to meet Federal School Nutrition standards.
