NORFOLK — The Veterans Association of Real Estate Professionals will be hosting an informational event for active duty and veteran military members to learn more about VA loans .
It will be on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
VAREP just opened their first Hampton Roads chapter; these chapters were created to help veterans learn the ins and outs of buying a home using VA loans, said Eric Gardner, a Realtor at RE/MAX Alliance and VAREP’s Hampton Roads Chapter.
“We want to debunk VA loan myths,” he said.
The event will have presentations on the importance of good credit, the VA loan guarantee process, building wealth with a VA loan, the home buying process and more, Gardner said.
In addition to learning about the loans, participants will be able to attend an expo for housing services following the presentations.
There they’ll be able to get their certificate for eligibility for VA loans, start a loan pre-approved process, find out more about home inspections and talk to representatives in the home appraisals sector.
“VAREP is a certified HUD Counselor as well and we will be able to put people in touch with credit counseling and credit repair programs,” Gardner said.
The event is free and open to active duty military, veterans and their families. A free luncheon is included.
Gardner asks those interested register ahead of time so they know how much food to provide.
