This event will raise awareness of first responder and military member suicides

NORFOLK — To raise awareness and prevention to the growing problem of first responder and military service member suicides, the city will host a “We Got Your Six” cycling suicide awareness and prevention poker run.

The event will be on May 25 from 8 a.m. to noon.

The majority of the riders will be first responders and active/retired military.

The event is free and open to the public.

Donations to the FOP3 foundation will be accepted and all donations that are received will be used to buy adaptive cycling equipment.

The adaptive cycling equipment will be used for injured first responders and military service members, officials said.

Riders will meet at approximately 7:30 a.m. in front of Main Gate Movies 1500 Mall Drive.

At 7:45 a.m., a ride brief will occur and moment of silence will be observed for fallen first responder and military service members.

After colors has concluded the ride will roll out on the path provided to riders.

Riders will each be given a total of five playing cards during the course of the event.

When the event concludes the riders with the best five poker hands will receive prizes donated by local business leaders.

The event is a 24 mile ride, 10-15 mph group ride.
