Police arrest juvenile in connection with deadly shooting at the Oceanfront

UPDATE May 10, 2019: Authorities have identified the shooting victim as Cole Stuart Grant of Virginia Beach.

He was 23 years old.

VIRGINIA BEACH – A Chesapeake “juvenile” was arrested and charged in connection with the deadly shooting Wednesday night at the Oceanfront.

Police said the suspect is charged with murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

Officers at 10:55 p.m. Wednesday responded to a gunshot call at 19th Street and Cypress Avenue.

There, police found a man who was shot – he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man’s identity was not immediately released. But the owner of Croc’s 19th Street Bistro said the man was an employee at the restaurant.

“Our Croc’s family is mourning one of our own. We are all simply stunned at what has happened,” Croc’s owner Laura Habr wrote in an Instagram post. “We are working with the Virginia Beach Police Department and trying to help them in any we can. We don’t feel it is appropriate to comment until they complete their investigation. … Our staff would like us to open our doors this evening so they can be together during this difficult time. In the meantime, our prayers go out to the victim’s family and friends.”

Just before the juvenile was arrested, officers canvassed the area and “detained several individuals at the scene.”

Further information about the shooting was not made immediately available.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have information about the incident to call Virginia Beach Crime Solvers at 888-LOCK-U-UP.
