VIRGINIA BEACH — Throughout May the Virginia Aquarium will offer 50 percent off admission to military members every Sunday and Monday.

Active duty, dependents and retired military are eligible for 50 percent off their admission with a valid ID, according to aquarium officials.

The Virginia Aquarium celebrates Military Appreciation month every year as a way to say thank you to our service members.

Tickets can be purchased either online or in-person at the aquarium.

Activities included with admission are as follows:

  • Curiosity Carts: Look for carts stationed in various locations featuring interesting artifacts and demonstrations.
  • Divers in Aquariums: Their team of staff and volunteer divers do regularly scheduled maintenance in the largest aquariums. When you stop by to observe, an educator will be there to answer your questions.
  • Gallery Programs: Aquarium educators also conduct Q & A sessions at selected aquariums and exhibits.
  • Up Close & Personal: The staff will have an animal for you to see up close. Learn adaptations and behaviors that make this animal unique.
  • See what’s happening

Recreation Centers

Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation is also offering those with a military ID a free visit at any of the city’s seven recreation centers every Friday in May. This offer applies to active-duty personnel, retirees and dependents with a valid military ID.
Patrons are also invited to honor service members by name on each recreation center’s “Wall of Heroes” all month long.
