Here are street closures you should be aware of this weekend

NORFOLK — Both the Spring Town Point Wine Festival and the city’s First Friday celebrations are happening Friday (May 3) which means there will be significant street closures.

Spring Town Point Wine Festival

Street closures support of the Spring Town Point Wine Festival produced by Festevents will begin at 10 a.m. to be secured by 11 a.m.

The closures will extend to Sunday, May 5 at 11 p.m.

Eastbound Waterside Drive
Beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 3 through 11 p.m. on Sunday, May 5 eastbound Waterside Drive, between Main Street and Martin’s Lane will be closed.

Lanes from Martin’s Lane to St. Paul’s Boulevard will remain open.

Westbound Waterside Drive
Beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 3 through 11 p.m. on Sunday, May 5 westbound Waterside Drive, between Main Street and Martin’s Lane will be closed.

Two outside lanes of Waterside Drive will remain open from St. Paul’s Boulevard to Atlantic Street.

Traffic will be detoured onto northbound Atlantic Street for access to Main Street and parking garages.

Valet parking for the Waterside District will be directed by digital signage.

Boush Street
From noon to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 3 the southbound curb lane of Boush Street from City Hall Avenue to Main Street may be restricted for festival participant load-in.

Beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, May 3 through 11 p.m. on Sunday, May 5 southbound Boush Street will remain open from Brambleton Avenue to Main Street.

Vehicles will be detoured under to eastbound Main Street.

Northbound Boush Street from Main Street to Brambleton Avenue will remain open.

Atlantic Street
Beginning at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 3 through 11 p.m. on Sunday, May 5 northbound Atlantic Street will remain open from Waterside Drive to Main Street.

Southbound traffic will be detoured east onto Waterside Drive.

Martin’s Lane
Beginning at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 3 through 11 p.m. on Sunday, May 5 north and southbound traffic will remain unrestricted at all times.

Taxi stand northbound will remain.

Southbound traffic will be detoured east onto Waterside Drive.

Access will be maintained to TowneBank/Prince Books parking lot and World Trade Center loading dock at all times.

Commercial Place
Open to traffic and unrestricted for the duration of the event closures.

In addition to the street closures, there will be parking removals in the following areas:

  • Eastbound Waterside Drive: No restrictions to normal on-street parking operations between Martin’s Lane and Atlantic Street.
  • Westbound Waterside Drive: 11 a.m. Friday – 11 p.m. Sunday, parking will be removed between Atlantic Street and Martin’s Lane. Access will be maintained for festival support vehicles.
  • Waterside Parking Loop: There is no access for festival support in the loop. Access will be maintained for valet vehicles from Waterside Drive.
  • Atlantic Street: 11 a.m. Friday – 11 p.m. Sunday, parking will be removed northbound from Waterside Drive to Main Street.
  • Commercial Place: 11 a.m. Friday – 11 p.m. Sunday, parking will be removed on northbound. Commercial Place (loading zone) from Waterside Drive to Main Street, parking meters on southbound Commercial Place will remain in operation.
  • Main Street: 6 p.m. Friday – 11 p.m. Sunday
    • Parking will be removed from eastbound and westbound Main Street between Boush Street and Granby Street for festival support parking.
    • Parking will be removed from eastbound and westbound Main Street between Granby Street and Martin’s Lane.
    • The taxi loading zone on East Main Street between Martin’s Lane and Atlantic Street will be closed.

First Fridays

The Downtown Norfolk Council will be hosting our First Fridays event on May 3, from 5 p.m.-8:30 p.m. on Granby Street at the TCC Plaza.

The following roads will be closed or restricted from approximately 3 p.m.-10 p.m.:

  • Granby Street will be closed from West Tazewell Street to West Freemason Street. Local traffic on Granby Street between West City Hall Avenue to Brooke and East Tazewell Street will be maintained.
  • Westbound College Place from Granby Street to Boush Street will be closed.
  • Westbound Market Street from Monticello Avenue to Granby Street will be closed.
  • Access will be maintained from Boush Street westbound on West Tazewell Street to southbound Granby Street and westbound on East Tazewell Street to Monticello Avenue.
  • North and southbound traffic on Granby Street will be detoured to either Boush Street or Monticello Avenue.
