Here’s an inside look at the new Wegmans in Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH — The region’s first Wegmans will open its doors to the public at 7 a.m. on Sunday but here’s what you need to know beforehand.

The 113,000-square-foot store at 4721 Virginia Beach Blvd. offers more than 60,000 products, including more than 4,000 organic items, hundreds of imported and domestic cheeses, wine and beer, a fast-casual restaurant called The Burger Bar, a Market Café with indoor and outdoor seating for more than 300 and a smorgasbord of chef-prepared restaurant foods from Executive Chef Tom Schwarzweller and his culinary staff of 127, officials said.

“I want our customer service to blow away all expectations,” said store manager Mike Coyle. “Every interaction is a moment of truth to win over our customers and earn their trust.”

The 103-year-old family company’s values are the guiding principles Coyle said they follow: caring, respect, high standards, empowerment, and making a difference in the community.

In addition to the prepared food section in the store, customers can find all of their grocery needs from toothpaste to toilet paper.

Customers can visit Wegmans’ website to sign up for Wegmans’ free Shoppers Club and download the Wegmans app, which offers recipes, digital coupons, a product catalog and the ability to create shopping lists sorted by aisle.

The store will offer Insta Cart shopping starting May 1.

Virginia Beach is Wegmans’ 99th store overall and the 12th in Virginia.

It’s the first of three Wegmans store openings this year; the others are in Raleigh, North Carolina and Brooklyn, New York.

A few minutes before 7 a.m. on opening day, store employees will gather in the entryway of the new store to do the Wegmans cheer, a long-standing tradition that precedes each opening.
