NORFOLK — Spring time means there’ll be kittens available at the Norfolk Animal Care and Adoption Center and other regional shelters, so the center has come up with a plan to get help caring for the kittens.
NACC and other regional shelters will need volunteers and supplies to welcome the kittens, and to ensure the kitty-cats have the care they need to reach adoptable age and weight, officials said in a news release.
So, they’re doing what any family does to prepare for a special deliver — they’re throwing a shower: Meow-er Shower.
On May 4, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at MacArthur Center’s Center Court, the shelters will host their first-ever regional kitten shower.
Participants can meet representatives from NACC, Norfolk SPCA, Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center, Virginia Beach SPCA and Chesapeake Humane Society and find out how they can volunteer at a shelter or foster kittens.
The shelters are also accepting donations and presents: their wish list includes kitten formula, bottles and nipples, heating pads and scales.
Check out their “registry:” here.
In addition to bringing supplies, visitors can buy pizza and non-alcoholic “MEOW-mosas” from California Pizza Kitchen.
A portion of the proceeds on the day of the shower will support Friends of the NACC, which provides funding for adoptions and medical care.
Barnes & Noble will also offer a cat-centric story time, kids’ crafts, and plenty of cat-themed books.
For children (or adults) they’ll also have kitten-face painters and selfie stations, cat-centric tunes and even some adoptable kittens, according to the news release.
