The seat is vacant because of a court order that voided David Nygaard’s November 2018 election.

City Council has until May 3 to make an appointment. According to a news release from City Clerk Amanda Barnes, registered voters in the Beach District interested in filling the seat are now able to view requirements and email their application materials to Barnes.

According to the city’s website, candidates must provide the following items:

  • Letter of interest
  • Resume
  • Statement of economic interest
  • Completed questionnaire

Application materials must be submitted by 5 p.m. on April 8. They either be emailed to Barnes or mailed to the following address:

In order to be eligible for appointment, candidates must reside in the Beach District. Interested candidates may determine which district they reside in by visiting the city’s online property search tool and then entering their address, selecting their home, and viewing their district on the “City Services” tab.

The person City Council appoints to fill the Beach District seat will serve until a candidate is selected during a special election in November and that individual has been deemed qualified to serve and takes the oath of office, according to the news release.
