VIRGINIA BEACH — Pourfavor Coffee Shop is a locally-owned shop that serves coffee and sweets straight from its Puerto Rican heritage.

Pourfavor opened its first location on 5705 Lynnhaven Parkway in Virginia Beach back in August 2017 as a complement to owner Marie de Pedro’s realty business, World Class Realty.

De Pedro wanted a place where she could take her clients and have coffee or lunch, so Pourfavor was born, said Faith DeGraad, the shop’s manager.

The family-owned business is co-owned by de Pedro and her partner Tina Renee Smith, who also works for World Class Realty.

A unique feature of the coffee shop is the flights of coffee it offers its customers.

Patrons can choose from a coach flight or a first class flight, DeGraad said.

The coach flight comes with a latte, mocha, machiatto and cold brew in portions sized similar to a beer flight.

The first class flight has everything plus two additional drink choices.

The shop created the coffee flight as a way to try different kinds of coffee all at once with either family or friends, DeGraad said.

“I don’t know anyone else who serves coffee flights like we do,” she added.

Since de Pedro is Puerto Rican, Pourfavor has a Cubano Espresso on tap as well as a variety of sandwiches, Quesitos (a Puerto Rican puff pastry) and Puerto Rican bread.

Locals who come to the shop get excited when they see the bread and pastries on display, DeGraad said.

Pourfavor also offers various coffee brands, both local and not.

One of the local brands comes from Prescription Coffee while its CBD Coffee comes from Buddha Beans Coffee Co. based in California — Pourfavor’s Rich Port blend comes straight from Puerto Rico, DeGraad said.

Pourfavor hosts a different local artist every month and has a back space people can rent for meetings.

“I wanted to bring in the local community to the coffee shop,” she said.

Pourfavor also has another location in Suffolk and the owners are looking to expand to another location in Norfolk in the future.
