NORFOLK — Smartmouth Brewing Company will be releasing a limited edition IPA Saturday with an all-day throw back celebration.
Saturday Morning, the name of the new draft, was created by Jimmy Laughran, a brewer at Smartmouth.
He wanted to create something that would bring the drinker back to Saturday morning PJs, cartoons and cereal, said Porter Hardy, president of Smartmouth Brewing.
This particular beer is a 6.6 percent ABV IPA, brewed with in-house toasted marshmallows and bulk dehydrated-marshmallow-bits.
It has been hopped and dry-hopped with Galaxy and Calypso hops, according to Smartmouth’s Facebook event page for Saturday Morning’s release.
“We wanted to put a fun spin on an IPA,” Hardy said. “I think that if you’re an IPA lover you’ll really like this beer.”
The nose is sweet and citrus, with orange and pear aromas, and it has a “soft pillowy body” with a slight cereal taste, according to the brewery.
Since this is a very limited release beer, those who want to can buy the beer on draft or canned at the Norfolk Tasting room event.
There will be a limit of two four-packs of beer per customer, Hardy said.
The release event will start at noon at the Norfolk Tasting room only and the beer will be distributed throughout Hampton Roads, Northern Virginia and Charlottesville restaurants, bars and bottle shops.
People are coming from all over the state, including a few people coming as far as Michigan, Delaware and New York, Hardy said, so he’s pretty excited about the event and is sure the beer will mostly be sold out on Saturday.
Saturday Morning all day
The release party will have a wide variety of activities.
The IPA can and draft release will be available starting at noon and Vinnie’s Pizza Truck will be there all day.
