VIRGINIA BEACH — Starting Monday, the parking lot near the YMCA will be closed for repaving as part of the updates being made to Mount Trashmore Park.
A portion of the park is under construction to replace the Park Office and construct a new permanent stage, according to the city.
For safety reasons, no public access is available through the construction area, and the steps located on the lakeside are also closed.
The notice said while there is no direct access from Edwin Drive to the lakeside restroom and shelters, visitors can access the areas by using the perimeter trail around the lake or mountain to bypass the construction, officials said.
The updates join the completed/in the process of being completed updates that have already taken place over the past year.
Those updates include a new observation boardwalk, updates to the south facing staircase and Edwin Drive Park Office, new pathways and a permanent Amphitheater.
The Amphitheater and pathway construction began on Nov. 13, 2018 and will continue through the summer of 2019.
By that time, Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation is hopeful that all of the renovations and updates will be completed.
The park will continue to remain open throughout the rest of the renovations, visitors should continue to be mindful of posted notices and detours for their safety.
