Human Rights Day on Dec. 10 marks the 70th anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights, affirming fundamental freedoms and human rights for all people.
The day also commemorates the 25th annual recognition of Human Rights Day by the Virginia Beach Human Rights Commission.
The commission will host an informational forum, Human Trafficking: Hidden in Plain Sight, on Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. at the Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library Auditorium, 4100 Virginia Beach Blvd.
The forum will focus on the impacts human trafficking has on Hampton Roads and how the community can be an advocate for ending it. Partners from the Hampton Roads Human Trafficking Task Force will attend to provide valuable resources and information, according to a news release from the city.
The Virginia Beach Human Rights Commission advocates for the human rights of city residents by providing educational programming, public forums and assistance to those whose rights may have been violated, according to the news release.
