VIRGINIA BEACH  — Help the children of this city meet their reading goals this holiday season by donating to the Virginia Beach READS book drive.

Until Dec. 30, Virginia Beach GrowSmart Foundation has partnered with Barnes & Noble to host a book fair.

Purchases during this book fair will support the Virginia Beach READS, a program within Virginia Beach GrowSmart Foundation, by supplying books to local children.

Online purchases will be credited by going to bn.com/bookfairs and entering Book Fair ID #12397295 at checkout.

Book donations will be for children ages 0-8, so keep that age range in mind when donating reading materials.

Reading on grade level is a critical milestone in a child’s educational and future life success, according to Virginia Beach GrowSmart Foundation.

According to the foundation, studies show that children who fall behind are likely to stay that way, and a child not reading at grade level by the end of first grade has an 88 percent chance of not reading at grade level by the end of fourth grade.
