Know before you go: VDOT’s list of weekly lane closures

Drivers on Interstate 64 should expect a series of nightly lane closures — and possibly some delays — through the week.

This list covers full closures of interstates, ramps, bridges and primary roads, and single-lane closures at the bridge-tunnels and the Berkley, High Rise and James River bridges from Sept. 30 to Oct. 6.

Work will also continue on segments II and III of the project.

A full list of scheduled closures is as follows:

Bridges

High Rise Bridge, I-64
  • Full stoppage for bridge lift: Sept. 30, 6 a.m. to 6:20 a.m.
  • Single-lane closures (both directions): Sept. 30, 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. and Oct. 1-2, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
James River Bridge, Route 17
  • Single-lane closure south: Oct. 1, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Single-lane closures (both directions): Oct. 2-5, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Ramp closures

Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel

Full ramp closures with signed detours in place: Sept. 30-Oct.6, 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

  • I-664 north/south on-ramp closure from VA-164 West
  • I-664 north off-ramp closure to VA-164 West
VA-164: Full ramp closures with signed detours in place
  • Sept. 28, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
    • I-64 west off-ramp to Route 199 west (exit 242A)
    • I-64 west on-ramp from Route 199 east
  • Sept. 30 – Oct. 4, as early as 8 p.m. to 5 p.m.
    • I-64 east and west to Route 60/Busch Gardens (exit 243A)
    • I-64 east and west to Route 143 (exit 243B)
    • I-64 east and west to Route 199 west (exit 242A)
    • I-64 east and west to Route 199 east (exit 242B)
    • Route 60 on-ramp to I-64 east and west
    • Route 199 east and west on-ramps to I-64 east and west
    • I-64 east and west to Yorktown Road/Jefferson Avenue (exit 247)
    • Jefferson Avenue (Route 143) on-ramps to I-64 east and west
    • Yorktown Road (Route 238) on-ramp to I-64 east

**Detour signs will be in place. All ramps will not be closed at the same time to maintain access to the detour routes.
I-264: Full ramp closures with signed detours in place
  • Sept. 30 – Oct. 4, 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
    • I-264 east on-ramp closure from Military Highway north
    • I-264 west on-ramp closure from Military Highway south
  • I-264 east ramp closure to I-64 east: Sept. 30- Oct. 5, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • I-264 west off-ramp closure to Military Highway north
    • Sept. 30, 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
    • Oct. 1-4, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • I-264 east/west on-ramps closure at Ballentine Boulevard: Oct. 4-6, 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • I-264 east/west off-ramp closure to Ballentine Boulevard:
    • Oct. 4, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
    • Oct. 5, 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.
    • Oct. 6, 10 p.m. to 9 a.m.
I-95: Full ramp closures with signed detours in place
  • I-95 south ramp closure to US-301 (Exit 8): Sept. 24, 8 p.m. until Oct. 5 at noon.

Lane Closures

Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel
  • Single-lane closure west
    • Sept. 30-Oct. 4, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
    • Oct. 5, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
    • Oct. 6, 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Single-lane closure east
    • Sept. 30-Oct. 4, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
    • Oct. 5, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
    • Oct. 6, 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
I-564 Norfolk
  • Dual-lane closures I-564 west at the runway tunnel: Oct. 1-5, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Right lane and shoulder closure I-564 west: Oct. 2-5, 8-12, 15-19, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
US-58 West Midtown Tunnel
  • Alternating lane closures westbound: Oct. 1-4, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
I-64/ I-264 Interchange Improvements with signed detours in place
  • Newtown Road south is closed under I-264 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. weeknights through October.
