The inspiration for the event came to Jason Pruitt, the outdoor programming and outreach coordinator at LL Bean in Lynnhaven Mall, when he was walking the boardwalk one day.
“There’s a lot of powerful history down there, dating back to 1878,” Pruitt said. “But there’s not a lot of information about the buildings that used to be there, so it’s really an effort to show what’s not available to see anymore.”
Pruitt says he has a fascination with history, especially that which has been lost or forgotten, and hopes to fill in some gaps for those who go on the tour.
“People may have lived here their whole life but they’re not aware of the places that were here before the parking lots or the high rise hotels,” he said.
The free tour will begin at 11 a.m. at the Pilot House, 313 32nd St. It’ll take about two hours and cover about four miles.
Those attending should dress appropriately for walking and for the weather, and bring sunglasses and sunscreen, as well as snacks and water.
Those interested should sign up online.
