NORFOLK — Police found a Norfolk State University student in his dorm room with a gunshot wound Tuesday morning, according to a release from the Norfolk Police Department.
Norfolk Police, Norfolk State University Police, and Norfolk Fire-Rescue responded to a report of a gunfire disturbance around 1 a.m.Tuesday morning. Officers arrived at the school’s Babbette Smith South Resident Hall, located at 700 block of Park Avenue, to find a 19-year-old student injured with an apparent gunshot wound. Police say the man was in his dorm room at the time of the shooting.
The investigation revealed that the man heard a loud noise from the room next to him, and then officers say he realized he had been shot. Police checked the adjacent room, but found that the suspect was no longer there. There were no other injuries reported, according to police.
The student was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment, and police say that he is expected to recover.
