Head coach Jeff Jones and the Old Dominion men’s basketball team announced the schedule for the 2017-18 season on Thursday, which includes 30 regular season contests, 18 clashes against conference foes, 14 games at home, 12 non-conference showdowns, five meetings against in-state opponents and one exhibition.

“Every season our goal is to put together a challenging non-conference schedule and this year is no exception,” said Jones. “With games against quality teams from the A-10, CAA, MAAC and MAC, as well as a great field at the Charleston Classic, we’ve got our work cut out for us and we wouldn’t want it any other way.”

The Monarchs one and only exhibition will take place on Nov. 5 against Christopher Newport at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.

ODU tips-off the regular season at home against Towson on Nov. 10, before traveling to Harrisonburg for its first road test against James Madison on Nov. 13.

Old Dominion will compete in the 2017 Gildan Charleston Classic, which includes a loaded field of Auburn, Clemson, Dayton, Hofstra, Indiana State, Ohio and Temple. Games will take place on Nov. 16, 17 and 19 at TD Arena in Charleston, S.C.

On Nov. 25, ODU travels to Williamsburg to take on William & Mary for the 89th all-time meeting between the two schools. Two days later, Old Dominion welcomes UMES to the Ted on Nov. 27.

The Monarchs kickoff the month of December at VCU on Dec. 2, before hosting Richmond on Dec. 6.

ODU remains at home for a Dec. 9 contest against Bowling Green. After an eight-day stretch of no games, the Monarchs take on Fairfield in Connecticut on Dec 17.

The non-conference finale takes place on Dec. 22 against Norfolk State at Norfolk Scope for ‘Throwback Night’. Old Dominion will be the home team for this matchup and this game is included in ODU’s season ticket package.

Old Dominion wraps up the year 2017 with its Conference USA opener at home versus Charlotte on Dec. 30.

“If we’ve learned anything in our brief time in Conference USA, it’s that every game is a battle,” Jones said. “This year will be no exception.”

The Monarchs’ first action in 2018 will be at Rice on Jan. 4. On Jan. 6, Old Dominion clashes with North Texas in Denton.

ODU hosts Western Kentucky on Jan. 11, before welcoming the Thundering Herd of Marshall to the Ted on Jan. 13.

The Monarchs play FIU on Jan. 18 in Miami and then FAU on Jan. 20 in Boca Raton.

The second meeting of the season with the Charlotte 49ers will be a road game for ODU on Jan. 27 to round out the month of January.

The two-time defending Conference USA champions, Middle Tennessee, will be in Norfolk for a Feb. 1 contest against the Monarchs. Two days later on Feb. 3, UAB will visit the Ted.

Old Dominion battles Southern Miss in Hattiesburg on Feb. 8 and LA Tech in Ruston on Feb. 10.

Conference play continues on Feb. 15, when ODU hosts UTSA (Feb. 15) and UTEP (Feb. 17).

The Monarchs final road trip of the regular season is at Marshall on Feb. 22 and then at WKU on Feb. 24.

ODU’s final home-stand of the regular season takes place on March 1 and 3, as FAU and FIU come to town.

The 2018 Conference USA Tournament will be held March 7-10 in Frisco, Texas at the Ford Center at The Star, in partnership with the University of North Texas, the Dallas Cowboys and Visit Frisco.
