NORFOLK — A day at the zoo is fun enough, but if you stick around on June 8 you can grab a craft beer and bite to eat at the annual Brew at the Zoo and Vino, Too fundraiser.
From 6-9 p.m., the Cultural Alliance of the Greater Hampton Roads will host its annual fundraiser at the Virginia Zoo which will feature food and drinks from local businesses and live music.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards the Cultural Alliance, which provides services to local art groups from Willamsburg to the Eastern Shore.
“We provide services to them such as workshops and training,”said Joan Rhodes-Copeland, executive director of the Cultural Alliance of Greater Hampton Roads. “We have workshops throughout the year that relate to thing they do like volunteering, social media, financial workshops, and things that will help arts organizations sustain and grow.”
The event will feature craft beers from O’Connor Brewing Company, St. George Brewing, Smartmouth Brewing Co., Young Veterans Brewery, Commonwealth Brewing Co., Bold Mariner Brewing Company, Devil’s Backbone Brewing Company and Back Bay Brewing Co.
There will also be a wine tasting courtesy of Tinto Wine.
Patrons can also grab a bite to eat with their drinks from any of the three food trucks that will be at the event. According to Rhodes-Copeland, featured food trucks this year are Capt’n Crabbie, Cast Iron BBQ, and Cast Iron Delicatessens.
“We help support the economics part of this area because we are utilizing our local business,” she said.
There will also be a silent auction and live music by reggae band The Cultivated Mind.
Tickets are available online until the day of the fundraiser for $40. Any leftover tickets will be sold at the door on the night of the event, but there may be an additional cost.
