VIRGINIA BEACH — A national fast food drive-in known for its seasoned fries and late night hours is opening in Virginia Beach next week.
Rally’s Drive-In opens at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 23 at 1641 Independence Blvd. next to CVS and across the street from Rite Aid.
To kick off the relaunch at the Beach, the new location will join Rally’s around the United States in offering its customers $1 any-size fries for the next month, franchisee Debbie Leonard said.
“I don’t think a new Rally’s has opened probably in the last 14 years here,” Leonard said. “When I came to the market, I’ll be honest, the stores weren’t in good shape and I spent the last three-and-a-half years rebuilding ones I have.”
The last Rally’s to serve Beach residents stood at the corner of Virginia Beach Boulevard and Witchduck Road, but was taken by the city through eminent domain last March, according to Leonard.
Leonard lives in Virginia Beach with her husband Craig and sons Colt and Weston, who also help manage Rally’s franchises they own in Norfolk, Hampton and Newport News.
The new location has about 30 employees, and Leonard said she would like to grow that number to 50 by next week. It will also hold a grand opening event with more food specials at a date yet to be determined about 30 days after its soft launch.
