Police: Skateboarder injured after being struck by a car on Great Neck Road

An adult skateboarder was struck by a car and injured Sunday on Great Neck Road in Virginia Beach.

Around 11:38 a.m., an adult male skateboarded into the road heading westbound and was hit by a vehicle at the 1300 block of North Great Neck Road and the 2200 block of Laurel Cove, according to a release from the Virginia Beach Police Department.

The man sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken by Emergency Medical Services to a hospital.

A preliminary investigation showed traffic was moving southbound with a green light and had the right of way.

The driver stayed at the scene. Charges are pending against the skateboarder.

This case is being handled by the officer at the scene.
