City offers free financial classes to help residents break out of ‘crisis mode’

VIRGINIA BEACH — Residents can now enroll in free city-run classes to help them gain control of their finances.

The monthly Bank On Virginia Beach classes begin in early January and continue through October. Residents will have four times to choose from — second Saturdays, second Wednesdays, third Thursdays and fourth Tuesdays.

The curriculum will cover banking and money management; savings strategies; how to break out of crisis mode; how credit works; how an individual’s credit score can affect one’s job; housing and insurance; how to improve credit scores and how to protect against identity theft.

Students will also be offered free one-on-one coaching from local financial institutions. The first round of classes begins Jan. 9.
