NORFOLK — Carolyn Carpenter has been promoted to president of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, effective Nov. 1.
Carpenter joined Sentara Healthcare in Sept. 2017 as vice president and chief operating officer of the hospital.

Prior to her time with Sentara, Carpenter enjoyed a 20-year career with Duke University Health System, according to a news release from Sentara.
At Duke, she held a number of roles, including chief operating officer for the system’s flagship, Duke University Hospital, associate dean and administrator for the Duke Cancer Institute and as an associate vice president of Duke Health.
She earned a Master of Healthcare Administration from the Medical College of Virginia and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania.
