Ann Filipowski, 74, of Virginia Beach, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, April 9, 2017.
Born Ann Loraine Pahucki April 22, 1942, in the Village of Goshen, N.Y., to the parents of Bernard ‘Barney’ J. and Anna F. Coleman Pahucki. Ann graduated in 1959, from Goshen Central School and went to work at Minisink Valley Elementary School as a secretary for the assistant principal.
She married her husband, Edward ‘Ed’ V. Filipowski, Oct. 29, 1960, also of Goshen, N.Y. Ed was in the U.S. Navy at the time, and she moved with him to Norwich, Conn., near where he was stationed in New London, Conn. Their son, Edward, was born in 1961 at the Naval Submarine Base Hospital in New London.
Ann and her young family traveled to many different duty stations including, Virginia Beach; Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico; and Jacksonville, Fla. Ann’s daughter, Lori Ann, was born in 1965 at the Jacksonville Naval Air Station Hospital.
In 1967, Ann’s family took up residence in Virginia Beach, where Ed eventually retired from the U.S. Navy in 1979. Ann was involved in the Norfolk Women’s Bowling Association and acted as the director of a bowling center for many years. She was the chairman for many women’s bowling tournaments held in Norfolk. Ann also traveled to various states for the Women’s National Bowling tournaments, and became a member of the Women’s Bowling Association 600 Club.
Ann was an avid baseball fan, and was an original member of the Norfolk Tides Tidewatchers Booster Club. Ann also enjoyed the fast pace action of NASCAR and was a Ricky Rudd and Carl Edwards fan. Ann was handy and creative at crafts and enjoyed sewing and crocheting. Ann loved dogs, and her life would not have been complete without her pet Poodles.
Ann was predeceased in death by her father and mother; sister, Dolores; and beloved pets, Fonzi and Snuggles.
Ann leaves behind her loving husband Ed of 56 years; children, Edward, and his wife, Gilda; daughter, Lori Ann Rowe, and her husband, Mark Sr.; grandchildren, Nathan and Timothy Filipowski, Tiffany Ann Rowe and Mark Jr., Alexandra Bentley, and her husband, Lenny; great-granddaughter, Charleigh; and pet Poodle, Buddy.
A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 17, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel. A service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, Va. There will also be a memorial celebration and reception for Ann’s friends and family held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 99, located at 357 Edwin Drive, Virginia Beach, Va.
