Mary Veillette, 82, of Virginia Beach, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017. She was born Mary Ellen Baldwin Aug. 15, 1934, in New London, Conn., to the late William and Margaret (McMahon) Baldwin.
She graduated from Williams Memorial Institute High School in 1952. Mary studied secretarial sciences and became an excellent stenographer, typist and office manager, holding various positions throughout her career. Mary married in 1955 to the late retired U.S. Coast Guard Charles Leddy until his death in 1994. Mary married retired U.S. Coast Guard Capt. H. Michael Veillette in 2005.
She enjoyed gardening, reading, playing piano, collecting art and travel, especially to warm places. Mary’s friends, colleagues and family will remember her for her witty, articulate sense of humor; her loyalty; and her quietly supportive generosity.
Mary is survived by her husband, Mike, of Virginia Beach; three children, Bill Leddy (Judi Hastings) of Paso Robles, Calif., Ann Harris (Jim) of Palmdale, Calif., and Susan Bucheger (Duane) of Lake Linden, Mich.; two grandchildren; and her beloved step family, including three children, Chris Veillette (Connie) of Fairfax, Va., Ann Slagle (David) of Tewksbury, Mass., and Jessica Brooks (Conrad) of Tucker, Ga.; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren; brother, Francis X. ‘Skip’ Baldwin (Pauline) of Tallahassee, Fla.; and sister, Patricia Hillyer of Stonington, Conn.; and numerous nieces, nephews and other loved ones.
A memorial Mass will be held at noon Friday, April 21, at Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Inurnment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
