VIRGINIA BEACH — A city man will spend the next two decades in prison after approaching a woman in a Sam’s Club parking lot, driving her to an ATM and getting away with her money.

Jorge Zambrana, 49, formerly of the 100 block of Victoria Drive was sentenced Wednesday to 80 years in prison with 60 years suspended.

Prosecutors say that on Dec. 22, 2015, Zambrana and Mark Albrecht II approached a woman walking to her car. While Albrecht asked the woman for directions, Zambrana came up behind her and told the woman to get in the backseat of her car and cover her head with a jacket.

Zambrana drove with Albrecht and the woman in the backseat to a Wells Fargo across the street from Sam’s Club on Virginia Beach Boulevard. The victim withdrew $800 and gave it to Zambrana and Albrecht, according to prosecutors. The two men drove the victim back to the parking lot, placed her cell phone and keys a short distance away and told her to wait 10 minutes before picking them up.

Zambrana and Albrecht left the parking lot on foot and the woman called police. A distinctive piece of clothing worn by Albrecht was seen in surveillance footage and later found during a search of his house. Albrecht confessed to his role in the crime and was sentenced to two years in prison.

Zambrana pleaded guilty on July 7, 2016, to robbery, carjacking, abduction and conspiracy charges.
