Samuel K. Black, 69, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 1, 2017, surrounded by friends and family. He proudly served his country for 30 years in the U.S. Navy, including tours in Vietnam on the USS Seminole and Desert Storm, retiring in 2001 as a lieutenant commander LDO.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, William and Easter Black; son, James Black; and sister, Janet Araiza.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 16 years, Shirley Black; daughter, Laura Tomon, and her husband, Josh; grandson, Peyton Urquhart; brothers, Bill, Dale and John Black; sister, Nina Foti; niece, Jeschelle Blais, and her family; nephew, William Araiza, and his family; a multitude of nieces and nephews and dear friends; and his beloved dog, Heidi.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, April 10, at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital Children’s Burn Center, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
