VIRGINIA BEACH — A man and child suffered non-life threatening injuries from the same bullet after a gun accidentally fired Sunday night, according to police.

Matthew Michael Stevenson, 50, was arrested and charged with handling a firearm recklessly, according to a Virginia Beach Police Department release.

Authorities responded to a call at 9:38 p.m. in the 3700 block of Landstown Road and noticed Stevenson’s gunshot wound. The child had already been taken to a nearby hospital by the time police arrived, according to the release.

Police say the gun accidentally fired while Stevenson cleaned it.
